Great Mills High School Band News

Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s Great Mills Classic such a wonderful event!

To all of the participating bands and their directors and staff—thank you for bringing your students, your music, and your energy to Great Mills. It was a privilege to welcome you to our campus and celebrate the hard work of so many outstanding student musicians.

A huge thank you to our GMHS Band Boosters, volunteers, parents, staff members, and students who gave their time and energy to make today possible. From concessions and hospitality to parking, admissions, equipment, setup, cleanup, and everything in between, events like this simply cannot happen without an incredible team working behind the scenes.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Great Mills High School and Southern Maryland community for coming out to support these students and the marching arts. Seeing the stands filled with families, friends, alumni, and supporters made the day even more special.

Hosting a marching band show takes a tremendous amount of work, and we are so thankful for everyone who played a part in making today a success.

Thank you for supporting the Great Mills High School Band and for helping us make the Great Mills Classic a day our students will remember.

Two Weeks of Growth: GMHS Band Camp 2026

The Great Mills High School Marching Band wrapped up an exciting two weeks of band camp with tremendous progress both on and off the field! Students learned new warmups, strengthened their instrumental and marching skills, and spent time getting to know their fellow band members as they worked together toward a common goal.

One of the biggest accomplishments of camp was putting Movement 1 of our 2026 field show, Siren Song, on the field. We finished our second week with valuable rehearsal experience on the Great Mills High School athletic field turf, giving students their first opportunity to bring together the music and movement they have worked so hard to learn.

Throughout camp, our students were supported by a wonderful group of instructional techs and led on the field by Drum Major Hannah. We even welcomed a few special guest marchers—Principal Dothard and Chief Mack—who joined the band for some time on the field!

A special thank you goes to Mr. Ramsey, our Band Director, for his leadership and dedication throughout camp, as well as to everyone who helped make these two weeks a success.

Band camp may be over, but our season is just beginning! Regular rehearsals begin next week as we prepare for our first performance of the season—the Great Mills Classic on Saturday, September 12, right here at Great Mills High School. We can’t wait to share Siren Song with our families, friends, and community!

A Strong Start to the Season!

The Great Mills High School Marching Band kicked off the summer with an outstanding Parade Camp, where students dedicated several days to refining marching fundamentals, parade music, and building the teamwork that defines our program. From first-year members to veteran leaders, everyone showed tremendous enthusiasm, focus, and a commitment to excellence.

Following the conclusion of camp, we learned the unfortunate news that the Fairfax Fourth of July Parade had been canceled. While we were certainly disappointed that we didn't have the opportunity to showcase all of the hard work our students had put in during Parade Camp, we are incredibly proud of the effort, dedication, and positive attitude everyone displayed throughout the week.

The progress made during Parade Camp has us excited for what lies ahead. With a solid foundation already in place, we are looking forward to an incredible Band Camp (August 3rd-13th!!) as we prepare our 2026 marching season and our show, "Siren Song." We can't wait to welcome everyone back, continue growing together, and showcase the hard work of our talented students throughout the fall.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and Band Boosters for your continued support. The future is bright for the Great Mills High School Band—and we're just getting started!
