About the Director

Mrs. Burroughs began her teaching career in 2002. She has taught band and strings at both the elementary and secondary levels and has been the Orchestra Director at Evergreen Elementary School since it opened in 2009. She had the honor of conducting the St. Mary’s All-County Elementary Honor Orchestra in 2007 and 2014.

Mrs. Burroughs holds a Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in Music Education from James Madison University. She has performed in the White House; Birmingham, England; Athens, Greece; the first Inaugural Parade for President George W. Bush, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She is an active member of the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

In addition to working with her students, Mrs. Burroughs also enjoys assisting her colleagues. She has served as a demonstration and mentor teacher in St. Mary’s County. She successfully completed the Superintendent’s Leadership Development Academy and the Professional Development Institute and is currently a member of the Fine Arts Leadership Team. Mrs. Burroughs and her colleagues published an article detailing their experiences using technology to support collaboration within Professional Learning Communities and presented a session on the topic at the National Staff Development Council (now Learning Forward) conference in Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Burroughs lives in St. Mary's County with her husband and two children. She enjoys attending concerts and relaxing at the beach with her family.
