Artist's Statement

I discovered my love of clay in high school, and never looked back. I learned how to create functional pottery at UC Santa Cruz, and then continued making ceramic sculpture at the University of Washington in Seattle. I discovered my love of collage in Seattle, where I started collecting old wallpaper to cover my sculptures. When I started a ceramics program at Alamo Elementary School in San Francisco in 2000, I discovered my love for teaching, and the process continues every school year. My current collages are inspired by the projects we explore in ceramics and art.
