The teachers who complete our MAT program are highly sought after. Virtually all our graduates who completed our program and sought Maryland teaching jobs were hired; felt ready to teach; and continue teaching despite the fact that 44% of new teachers quit in the first five years.
Our alums teach all across Maryland, all across the US, and all across the world. Of the few alums who are no longer teaching, almost all are pursuing careers that make use of their MAT degrees, including outdoor education, museum education, and childbirth education. Notable exceptions include the elementary school teacher who quit after nine years to pursue a career as a DJ, the teacher whose became so renowned as an artist that she quit to pursue art full time, and the Peace Corps volunteer.
Our program prepares graduates to be successful in all kinds of schools, including schools serving low-income children, charter schools and magnet schools. It also prepares graduates for four future career paths: Becoming a master teacher; moving on to k12 administration; returning to school to pursue a PhD in education; and returning to school to pursue a PhD in one's discipline.
We charge in-state tuition to all students, including international students, and the program is only 10 (intense) months long.
Finally, we pay careful attention to the professional growth of each student; we take our mission seriously and it is our goal to ensure that every graduate is prepared to teach with power, poise and confidence.
