Spike grass is commonly found in northeastern tidal salt marshes or in southeastern tidal marshes. This species is tolerant of salinity and drought conditions.
Spike grass is used to revegetate ecosystem areas with unusual levels of salinity. It colonizes areas quickly and can adapt to a variety of soils. Spike grass can be grazed on by livestock and also attracts important pollinators such as birds and butterflies.
Leaf: Rigid, flat grass formed in dense colonies; head of blades forms smooth spike.
Flower: Yellow spikelets (April-Oct.); seeds drop in the fall
Color: Dark green
