SMCM alumna Emily Bzdyk ('08), who majored in biology with twinned minors in environmental studies and studio art, writes:
"We currently have a backyard flock of 41 happy hens! We feed them an organic feed, supplemented with green forage from our yard (no pesticides used) and leftovers from our table (we eat mostly organic in our house). Our chickens are our friendly pets that also just happen to produce breakfast daily.
Their names are: Beatrice, Midge, Hoot, Wimpiss, Oat, Poopchat, MaBlack, Jumbo, Poofy, Pom Pom, Gamora, Wanda, Val, Okoye, Juniper, Blueberry, Windshear, Dottie, Hope, Starry, Stormfly, Nightlight, Hannah, Hashi, Majesty, Heritage Flake, Laura, Peggy, Meatlug, Cloudjumper, Nebula, Carol, Natasha, Peep, Bee, Midna, Zelda, Popananoon, Rudy, Hilda, and Pluto.
Our flock is registered with the state of Maryland, and we are also registered egg packer/distributors (#MD1960)
