My First Day

How do I get to school?

If you qualify for bus transportation, you will be notified by your elementary school in June with your bus information. Make sure you remember your bus number so that you know which bus to take at the end of the day. If you're walking or getting a ride, it is a good idea to do a practice run before the first day of school.

What do I wear?

Each of our high schools has a school uniform that must be purchased during the summer. DGN Kilters is the Board approved provider for all uniform needs. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact your school.

How do I know where my locker is?

The week before school starts, there will be an orientation day when you can find out where your locker will be located. Some schools may require that you bring your own lock or purchase one. You will be contacted by your school with further information regarding the orientation date.

Try the lock to practice opening your lock.

Where do I go first?

When you enter your school, there will be information on which homeroom you are in and the room number. Look for your student leaders or a staff member if you have any questions.

Where do I sit?

Before entering, make sure that you double check the room number on your timetable. Each class is different. Some teachers will have assigned seating and some will ask that you choose an appropriate seat. This is your opportunity to meet some new friends. Take the time to say hello to someone new.

What do I need for my next class?

Every school has different rules about going to your locker between periods. Be sure to ask your homeroom teacher and be aware of how much time you have to get from class to class. If going to your locker is not permitted, make sure that you have everything you need for both classes. The time between classes is great for grabbing a snack or going to the washroom.

What happens at lunch?

Visit your school's website to check out the lunch schedule. Some schools have two lunches and others have one.

You can either eat your lunch in the cafeteria or you are allowed to leave the property. Feel free to bring your own lunch or purchase food outside. Make sure you know how long you have for lunch and allow yourself enough time to get to your locker to gather your supplies.

How do I get involved in school activities?

It is important to listen to morning announcements to find out when upcoming tryouts or meetings will be happening. All of our schools have social media accounts where important information is announced so make sure you follow your school's account. There are also bulletin boards around the school announcing various upcoming activities.

Where do I go if I need help?

You can go to the Guidance Office or the Chaplain's office at any point when you need support. Your school may also have student mentors you can reach out to. In addition, your elementary guidance teacher is available for support by email.
