To Reach Redefinition Stage of SAMR

Students were to self select a Leadership book (list provided or personal choice approved by teacher). I challenged my students to create a 'Book Trailer' to excite others to read their book rather than just write a traditional pen/paper book report. The students had to also infuse topics from our class readings, The Student Leadership Challenge (Kouzes and Posner, 2014)

For the students who did not wish to read a book to invoke their creative side, they were given the opportunity to write an argumentative essay. I had about half of the class choose each option.

Student Feedback

• Students felt that the visual representation of their hard work was rewarding and that by presenting it this way they felt they had to have a better understanding the book
• They found it difficult summarizing the book into a couple of minutes
• Some expressed added stress that they had never created a video before and had to learn this. One student indicated that this method was not traditional and felt it was more difficult.
