"To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

Celebrating a Legacy of Learning

A retirement celebration is being planned for Brian in the fall when there is more flexibility in terms of gatherings and physical distancing. However, we could not let this school year come to an end, and let Brian slip away on July 31st, without some kind of special acknowledgement - so here it goes!

How do you even begin to put into words Brian Beal’s influence on and contributions to the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board? He has been part of our Catholic school family for 30 years, during which he served in many roles including English teacher, vice-principal, principal, Executive Superintendent of Education, Programme and Services, and finally, as Director of Education.

In his various positions, he has played a key role shaping the learning journey and educational programming of thousands of students.

Brian cares deeply about every student. . . he shows warmth and kindness to our youngest students and garners admiration from our youth because of his easy-going and compassionate nature. Throughout his career, Brian was particularly focussed on ensuring that our most marginalized and disadvantaged students had every opportunity to succeed in school and life. He truly believes that every person has God-given abilities and gifts, and he knows that every child deserves respect and the opportunity to learn. He has worked hard to foster this sense of inclusion and equity, from his office to every school and classroom.

In his 10 years as Director of Education, Brian has established a culture of inclusion, kindness and compassion, firmly rooted in our Catholic values. In many small ways, and sometimes in significant and meaningful ways, Brian has touched the lives of thousands of students, staff and family members. There is no doubt that his wisdom, vision and leadership will not soon be forgotten and will continue to guide us for many years to come.
