The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a test of reading and writing for Grade 10 students in Ontario. This year’s test date has yet to be released. More information about the test can be found in the following documents:
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a large-scale assessment that is for grade 10 and up students in the province of Ontario.
It assesses whether students have the reading and writing skills needed to meet the literacy requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
This test is a graduation requirement which means that you need to pass the test or successfully complete the grade 12 Ontario Literacy Course (OLC4O) to graduate from high school.
What is assessed?
The OSSLT assesses reading and writing skills.
Reading is defined as the process through which the reader actively makes meaning for a variety of written texts that students are expected to understand according to the expectations in The Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. The purpose of these modules is to provide another way to support students as they prepare for the OSSLT test.

One of the best ways to feel ready, calm, & prepared for the test is to practice; Students can familiarize themselves with the tasks that will be on the test by using each section below. They contain tips, samples, scoring guides, and exemplars that can be used to practice for the OSSLT.
