IIT Madras has an Animal House for animals that participate in scientific research and educational studies. The Animal House is designed to provide appropriate living conditions and ensure the welfare of the animals involved. Various species of animals, such as Mice (BPH/2J,3J, C57BL, Balb/c,) Rats (Albino Wistar), rabbits, are housed depending on the specific research or educational needs of the specific laboratories. We have a well-Equipped Breeding Facility also. The facility is equipped with specialized infrastructure, including animal holding rooms, cages or enclosures, feeding and watering systems, environmental controls, and veterinary support. The Animal House facility follows ethical guidelines and regulations to ensure the humane treatment of animals and to minimize any potential harm or distress caused during research. These guidelines include protocols for animal care, monitoring, enrichment, and veterinary support. The Animal House plays a crucial role in facilitating scientific research, drug development in the university.
