Program Overview
Aligned with state guidance, the San Leandro Unified School District provides a strong early start to education for all children through high-quality, joyful, developmentally informed, inclusive, and rigorous TK learning opportunities.
Play is at the heart of TK. Through play, exploration, conversation, and hands-on learning, children develop curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a love of learning. They also begin building important foundations in reading and language, math, science, and social-emotional development. TK gives children the time and support to grow as learners, build relationships, and feel a strong sense of belonging at school.
This foundational year is also the beginning of each child’s journey toward the Graduate Profile. From their earliest days in our schools, students begin learning to think critically, communicate and collaborate with others, care for themselves and their community, and grow as Cultural and Ethical Leaders.
Our TK program reflects SLUSD’s commitment to Anti-Racist Universal Design for Learning, which means we recognize the strengths and inherent genius of every child and work to make learning accessible and engaging for all students. We want every child to feel seen, supported, challenged, and excited to learn, with particular attention to ensuring that students who have historically been underserved have every opportunity to thrive.
