Every TK classroom has one educator for every ten students, as required by California law. Each classroom has a credentialed teacher and at least one paraeducator to support student learning.
Each day, children learn about the world around them while building skills in reading, speaking, and working with others. They also learn to understand their feelings, discover how they learn best, and practice getting along with others.
Teachers get to know each child and provide the support they need to learn and grow. Throughout the day, children learn together as a class, in small groups, and at learning centers. Activities include playing, reading, exploring, writing, and talking with others.
Young children learn best when they have plenty of time to play and explore. In our TK classrooms, at least half of the learning time is spent on activities that children choose, such as playing at learning centers. During the rest of the day, teachers guide learning through fun, hands-on activities with the whole class or in small groups.
