Audio Tutorial When Using Multiple Monitors

You need to change your computer's output to the Promethean board. You can do this by clicking the Volume icon at the top and choosing "ActivPanel V5".

At this point your sound will be coming out of your Promethean but Zoom still may be coming out of your Macbook. Click the arrow next to your Mute button and choose "ActivPanel" as the speaker output.

If playing sound on your computer that you need remote students to hear make sure you choose "Share computer sound" when sharing your screen.

Using 3 displays, mirror monitor and Promethean

Note: This is for all wired connections and does not describe using AirPlay, although the process is similar. That is not a recommended configuration.

Many teachers find it useful to use 3 displays, using their laptop as a stand-alone display and mirroring the monitor and Promethean board. This enables you to use the monitor to see what you're doing on the Promethean without having to look at the far away board which can be awkward.

  1. You will need your Macbook, Promethean board, an extra monitor, 2 HDMI adapters (also called Dongles) and 2 HDMI cables for this.

  2. Plug the 2 adapters directly into your Macbook (do not daisy chain them) and then an HDMI cable into each adapter and then into the Promethean and monitor (it doesn't matter which goes to which).

  3. Power on all devices, change your Promethean's input to the HDMI input you plugged into (HDMI 1 is the front input).

  4. Open System Preferences on your Mac and go to Displays and then the Arrangement tab. Make sure "Mirror displays" is unchecked.

  5. Clicking any of the screens here gives you a visual indication of which corresponds to which display.

  6. Hold the 'option' or 'alt' key on your keyboard and then drag one of your secondary monitors onto the one you are trying to mirror to.

  7. One final note, the layout of the monitors you have here controls how your mouse moves between them. For example if your external monitor is set to the right side of your Mac then you will need to move your mouse to the right of the screen in order to move it to the external monitor.

  8. Your setup should be complete at this time.
