Options for Hybrid Tech

Self-guided resources to help you set up technology in your classroom

Concurrent Setup

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for all teachers regarding the technology required for concurrent teaching. Technology worked with stakeholders across the district to develop a recommended setup that will provide teachers and students with a simple, consistent, teaching and learning experience. This setup utilizes the teacher Macbooks to host a Zoom meeting and to screen share content (slide decks, videos, documents, etc.), with a high quality camera to act as the “virtual student” and share the classroom with students who attend class virtually, “Zoomers”. This allows students who choose on-site instruction ("Roomers”) to participate in the lesson while the teacher utilizes the whiteboard and/or Promethean board and for "Zoomers" to participate in the same learning experience through Zoom. While the technology setup in some classrooms may differ slightly, the goal is to provide a simple and consistent learning experience to all students through the recommended technology setup.

Our team recommends the following setup to get started with concurrent teaching. The options below don’t represent the only way to use these devices, but are our recommendations. We believe this is an approachable model that can be implemented by teachers without the need for an advanced IT setup or complex training.

Model 1: Basic Macbook Setup

The simplest option works in basically the same way you operated in distance learning. The biggest change here is that you will connect your Promethean board to your Macbook to show content and/or the students participating in class via distance learning.

Model 2: Additional HD Camera on Tripod

With the addition of a 4k webcam with high quality microphones, a higher fidelity experience can be created for students learning via distance. This setup also has the advantage of allowing you to move and reposition the camera as needed while keeping your Macbook in a convenient location.

Outdoor Learning

Utilizing tech outside presents its own set of challenges.
