The video below goes into the basic components and setup for your classroom technology. We have written materials available below as well.
The basic setup consists of components you are likely familiar with.
Components
Macbook Air w/ USB/HDMI dongle
HD Document Camera via USB
New HD Webcam with omni-directional microphones
All components (including the HDMI cable from your Promethean board) plug-in to your Mac via the USB dongle.
The image above shows the difference between using Mirrored Mode (the default) and Extended Display mode with your Promethean.
In Extended Display mode the Promethean acts as a totally separate monitor allowing you to have different content (such as your Zoom screen) on the Promethean while using your laptop.
Switching to extended display mode is simple. After connecting your laptop via HDMI you go into System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangements and uncheck the "Mirror Displays" checkbox.
Apple has a help article on the process available here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202351
Many teachers find it useful to use 3 displays, using their laptop as a stand-alone display and mirroring the monitor and Promethean board. This enables you to use the monitor to see what you're doing on the Promethean without having to look at the far away board which can be awkward.
Instruction on this are available on the bottom of our Promethean page here.
