Project Objective: Understand the structures of bridges. Then, build a type of bridge introduced within the lessons such as beam bridges, cantileveres, and trusses.
Partner: Xiaowen Liu!!
Ms G. introduced us to bridge structures and the different types of bridges that are used in different environments. It includes beam bridges, cantilevers, and trusses.
It's so cool to learn what type of bridges there are! It's an amazing accomplishment by human civilization. They figured out all the math just so people could have an easier convenience of arriving to their destination.
Xiaowen and I wanted to do a suspension bridge, so we went by a model we found online such as models like the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge.
For 3D Models, I modeled for the autment and the dowels for our components.
The most fun part of this project was getting to paint with Xiaowen. I've never built a bridge before so I really enjoyed doing it with a friend.
Xiaowen and I were able to complete the project on time. We even had enough time to paid the bridge the color she wanted. Before we finished it, we realized that we could not tie the fishing wires to the electrical wires because it would waste too much string and it was stiff. Therefore, we got glued it to the electrical wire even though it was not recommended. Despite this, the bridge still looks clean and not all over the place. Hot gluing was the longest part of the project.
ALSO kudos to Xiaowen's artistry, the sketch of our model would not be awesome without her!!
This is the final sketch of our model:
