Discuss your grade with your professor.
Work with a tutor and/or academic coach to improve your grade.
Discuss the impact of withdrawing with your Academic Advisor.
International students must consult with the international advisor before dropping or withdrawing from a class. This decision may impact your visa status.
If you intend to apply to medical, law, professional, or graduate school, check with the appropriate advisor or mentor to determine the impact a "W" might have on your application.
Make sure you know the answer to this question: Will withdrawing from this class delay the completion of my academic program and result in a later graduation date?
If you receive scholarships or financial aid, consult with Student Financial Services BEFORE withdrawing from a class.
If you have a registration hold, you may withdraw from one or more classes using this electronic form: Registrar's Form #8
PLEASE NOTE: Withdrawing from a class will result in a 'W' on your transcript for that class.
A 'W' merely indicates that you withdrew from the class and has no impact on your GPA. One or two 'W's on your transcript is typically not a problem, but a pattern of dropping a class every semester is something you should avoid. If you are concerned about a 'W' on your transcript, you should consider what grade you would earn in the class if you stayed in it. In most cases, a 'W' is better than an 'F.'
