Phase 1 laid the groundwork for all of future phases because it led to the creation of a University-wide framework on teaching effectiveness.
Future phases will build from there, moving us toward implementation of a holistic, responsible system of evaluation for teaching. Below are some of the things we will need to undertake in future phases of the project. Given the complex and iterative nature of this work, it is important to have a sense of where we're headed, while also remaining flexible about what future phases might look like. Some of the work described below may be able to happen in parallel.
[Phase 2] Design a comprehensive system for evaluating teaching -- including parameters and protocols for appropriate sources of evidence -- to be used for annual review, as well as rank and tenure review
[Phase 3] Align existing materials and policies (including the Faculty Manual, rank and tenure guidelines, workload policies, etc.) with the adopted framework and approved system of evaluation
[Phase 3] Redesign student course feedback surveys to align with the new framework and system of evaluation
[Phase 3 and beyond] Customize/tailor the University-level framework and protocol for disciplinary specificity -- happens at the academic unit level
[After Phase 2] Build capacity to support effective implementation of the new system of teaching evaluation at all levels -- including training and development for self-evaluation, peer observation, Chair evaluation, rank and tenure committee evaluation, etc.
[After full implementation] Assess how well the framework and new system of teaching evaluating are working
