This page outlines key action items for all Panopto users over the coming months. See the Resources page for detailed instructions and resource guides on how to archive, delete, restore, and export Panopto recordings.
The first phase of this project focuses on Panopto recordings that have not been viewed in at least 24 months. On June 1, those recordings will be marked for deletion (and will be permanently deleted after 90 days).
If you DO NOT wish to preserve recordings that have not been viewed in the past 24 months: You do not need to take action at this time. Those recordings will be deleted automatically, and no further action is required on your part.
If you DO wish to preserve some/all of your recordings that have not been viewed in the past 24 months: You must take action to prevent those recordings from being deleted. The recommendation is that you archive the recordings in Panopto or export them to be saved elsewhere. The resources page can support you in taking the appropriate action for your situation; they include detailed instructions on how to Archive and Export Panopto recordings, as well as other related topics.
The resource guides below provide detailed information about how to manage content in Panopto. We've provided some general guidance, as well as detailed instructional guides from ITS.
Beyond this first phase, we expect to need further reductions of stored recordings in Panopto.
Therefore, we encourage everyone to clean up other Panopto recordings if you are able to do so. This might include:
Deleting recordings you no longer need (regardless of when they were last viewed)
Archiving recordings you want to preserve long-term but do not need regular access to (Archived recordings take 24-48 hours to restore)
Exporting recordings you want to preserve long-term but don't need to keep stored inside of Panopto
The more cleanup you do now, the less painful future storage reductions will be -- and the more likely SLU is to get below our storage limits without added costs.
