Our five thematic programs

"Let The Girl Be-Uganda (LEGIBE)," empowers vulnerable girls and teenage mothers in our community to save them from sexual and labor exploitation. We aim to achieve this through our five thematic programs, girls education, counseling, self-sustenance, music dance & drama, and community outreach

Here is a group of girls are weaving and knitting as part of the self sustenance program.

Girls Education Program

This program seeks to help vulnerable girls complete their education and to provide vocational training so that girls can find employment. With employment out girls can generate an income that provides for themselves and their families. Economic independence and academic achievement for these girls means freedom.

Many of the girls at LEGIBE have experienced educational interruptions. LEGIBE provides education for the girls so that they can return to school prepared and continue to feel confident about their intellectual power.

Donations will help us provide girls with books, pencils, paper, and other school supplies in addition to academic experts and materials to increase the quality of our instruction. We also support girls' school fees, but we often cannot support everyone at once and girls are required to wait a year to go to school.

Counseling Program

The vulnerability of our community girls gives them powerful stories to tell! These girls have issues which need to be handled carefully to restore their lost hope. The counseling we offer aims to help the girls understand and process their struggles and empower them to carry on and build big dreams for their future.

Because of the adversities our girls experience, it is important to provide counseling services so that they may process and heal from their pasts in a safe and supportive environment. The counseling empowers the girls so that they may feel that their futures are bright and continue to believe in their power and capabilities as independent women.

It is unfair that these young girls and women must deal with the suffering that they have; it is our main concern to ensure that the girls are mentally and emotionally well so that they can thrive and grow in all areas of their lives.

Donations will allow us to employ kind and qualified psychologists and counsellors to work with our girls.

Self-Sustenance Program

These girls are determined to become economically independent and self-reliant women. We encourage this by generating projects for the girls such as sewing and weaving.

Economic independence for these girls means going to school and a life of freedom-- a life that is unfortunately, often not possible without men. However, the self-sustenance program teaches the girls that their creations have value and that they are capable of making and managing their own money.  Donations will help us procure materials for these projects. Many of the girls and mothers at LEGIBE are talented craftswomen, but they often lack the materials to complete their projects.

Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD)

Music and dance are a big part of our culture and are a way of storytelling. For many of these girls, singing, poetry, and dancing provide emotional release, help them share their stories, and are an endless source of joy. Music and play performances help create a forum for girls and teenage mothers in the community to tell stories, share experiences about challenges in our community. For example, the increasing number of girls dropping out of school, the importance of educating young girls, disease control e.g., HIV/AIDS, and family planning.

The Sports program is designed to help girls develop physical skills, appreciate exercise, make friends, have fun, and learn to share and play as members of a team. It also allows girls to recognize talents that can be promoted and help them earn a living. Our girls love to play football and donations will allow us to provide more supplies for play and a safe football pitch.

Community Outreach Program

We aim to partner with community members, especially leaders and the mothers/guardians of the community girls.

Through this program, we invite counselors and women activists to talk to our community girls, their parents/guardians, and other interested community members about the rights of young girls.

Our outreach program enables us to visit High/Secondary schools in Mukono District where our music, dance, and drama team will perform music and dance performances that spread awareness and remind school girls the temptations and tricks men use to seduce them. All of which can put them into risks of getting unwanted pregnancies and HIV/AIDS. Although, we run into the barriers of securing transportation and lunch for our performing team, the outreach is important to us and our mission, so we try to do this as often as economically possible.

Our programs are the heart and soul of LEGIBE and show our intention. We strive to create a safe envrionment where these girls can flourish and feel like normal girls, where they can just simply "be."
