The experience at Bamberg Cathedral is one of beauty and mystery. From little playful images like the Green Man sculpture to the exquisitely carved Tomb of Henry and Kunigunde, a visit will not leave a guest wanting.
The legends and stories surrounding the Cathedral are typical for German cathedrals, but the prominence and frequency of these stories makes Bamberg one of the more interesting examples. The German taste for exciting legends is reflected in their taste for lively and energetic sculpture. Many of the stories surround the two founders, Henry II and Kunigunde, which shows just how prolific they were in their lifetimes.

Bamberg Cathedral's physical separation from the city on its hill is symbolic of its separation from the average citizens. The cathedral was most likely mostly used mostly by clergy members.
