Bamberg Cathedral https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamberg_Cathedral
Construction of the first cathedral began in 1002 under the command of German King, and later Holy Roman Emperor, Henry II. The building was completed by 1012, but suffered damage from a fire many years later in 1081. A fire such as this is not much of a surprise, given that the original ceiling was made of flat wood. The cathedral was then reconstructed under the supervision of Bishop Otto and reconsecrated in 1111. Unfortunately, Bamberg cathedral was struck by yet another fire in 1183. The cathedral we see today is the last rebuilding, overseen by the powerful Bishop Count Ekbert von Andechs-Meran. The multiple re-buildings of the cathedral show the perseverance of the German people and are reflective of Henry and Kunigunde's original determination to establish a new cathedral.
