Spelling Homework

Students in 4th and 5th grade will be given a weekly spelling list each Monday (see tab above for the weekly list).  For each night Monday through Wednesday (with the exception of a day that we are not in school), students will log into kidsa-z and complete one of the activities available to them. Please see directions below.

In addition to spelling words, 5th grade will have 4 vocabulary words taken directly from what they have covered  in other content areas.  For example, if they covered weather in science the prior week, they may be given words such as condensation and evaporation.  The purpose of this is beyond spelling, and is intended to help students with retention of knowledge by practicing meaning of content words from another subject area while practicing the spelling of those key terms.  For these vocabulary words, students will be responsible for being able to identify the word when given the definition as well as being able to spell the word.  Definitions will be included on their weekly list that they receive on Mondays.  Please see directions below.

All students will be given a spelling test on Thursdays covering the words that they were given for that week.  ALL students (4th and 5th) are given the option of whether to take the weekly spelling test online or on paper.

Please remember that spelling words will always be listed on the website if your child loses their list.
