About

Ian McKay is an Australian-American director, actor, and San Luis Obispo High School alumnus who served as Creative Director of Iambic Pentameter from 2019 to 2021. McKay made his stage debut in 2017 and later became known for his comedic supporting roles, including in Bye Bye Birdie (2018), Mamma Mia! (2019), Rent (2020), and The Party Hop (2021). In 2021, he directed the second SLOHS revival of Much Ado About Nothing. McKay received a Golden Tiger Award for Theatre in 2018 for his work with the program and the associated CTE pathway.

McKay is best known for his work in film and television, anchoring and producing Tiger News Network from 20182021, and qualifying for the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival three times during his time at SLOHS. He won the 2021 SLOHS Film Festival and an additional Golden Tiger Award for his work in film. Concurrent with his leadership of Iambic Pentameter, McKay also served on the Film Production Club Board of Directors as vice president (20182020) and president (20202021).
