Every year, the San Leandro Academy for Multimedia does a fast during a school wide event known as the Season of Service / Period of Peace in order to speak out for peace and nonviolence. The academy does a week long fast in which students are set into groups and fast for a various cause (such as food, social media, etc.) each year. This year, us Sophomore students were tasked with creating podcasts in order to speak out about ending male violence against women.
For my group, I teamed up with my friends Sarah and Xiomara in order to create a podcast about the Brock Turner Case. The Brock Turner Case was a sexual assault case at the University of Stanford which made national headlines for being one of the most controversial sexual assault cases and one of the most outlandish sentences in the current decade. Our group chose this topic because it would be relevant to the topic and we hoped that it would be in recent memory with some people.
The podcast turned out better than I thought it would. We did our research before recording the podcast and the recording turned out alright. All 3 of us stuttered a lot so we had to edit a lot of awkward silence out but in the end, it turned out pretty good! We used GarageBand and Adobe Audition as our primary editing softwares in order to create this podcast, using them to fix the sound and add music.
We spent a lot of time on this, I hope you enjoy our SLAM Fast for Nonviolence Podcast!
