Use Microsoft PowerPoint to design and deliver engaging business presentations.
Use Microsoft Outlook to communicate effectively by email and manage tasks.
Use Microsoft Access to design databases, run queries and produce reports — introduced in S3 (not covered in S1–S2).
Develop good practice in file management, accuracy, and time management.
Alongside practical IT work, pupils study the theory of administration in the workplace, learning about:
The roles, duties, and qualities of an effective administrator
Customer service — its features, benefits, and the impact of poor service
Health and safety — key legislationÂ
Security of people, property, and information
Electronic communication and professional use of email
The importance of file management, corporate image, and reliable information sources
This combination of theory and hands-on tasks helps pupils understand how effective administration supports business success, safety, and professionalism.
💼 Assignment:
Midway through the course, pupils complete an assignment that brings together these skills in a realistic business scenario.Â
This allows pupils to demonstrate effective use of IT for planning, communication, and information management — reflecting the skills for learning, life and work promoted by Curriculum for Excellence.
This course provides an excellent foundation for progressing to National 4 or 5 Administration & IT, while equipping pupils with essential digital and organisational skills for everyday life.
