At the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup each year, students can enter their FFA animal projects into the Northwest Junior Livestock show. Students can also compete in several educational SAEs such as the Agriscience Fair, or be part of the Livestock Judging CDE. This fair takes place in the second half of the school year and students usually begin preparation for their projects at the end of fall.
Typically, students raise swine animal projects for this fair, although students can bring other animal projects raised from home with advisor permission.
Kitsap County Fair is our summer student engagement activity for those members who want to remain active in the FFA throughout the summer months. Students recieve their animal projects following the return from Spring Fair and raise their animals through the summer months. In August, before the return back to school, students enter their animals for showmanship at the county fair and then have the opportunity to sell for market at the Kitsap Junior Livestock Auction.
At this fair, students can raise a variety of animals from rabbits to chickens to steer. Typically, FFA students raise pigs and lambs on campus for this fair.
Puyallup Spring Fair: Students must attend the livestock interest meeting in Early November and have their deposits in by the last week of the month. Pig pick is typically in the first week of December and students raise their animal projects through April. For students not raising swine, they must coordinate a meeting with advisors to discuss their desired project and must still attend all required meetings
Kitsap Summer Fair: Students must attend a livestock interest meeting in March and have deposits in for animals by early April. Students are responsible for monthly barn meetings throughout the summer and will have scheduled barn shifts every week throughout the entire summer. Summer fair occurs the third week of August each year.
