Veterinary science is a capstone class which provides hands-on experiences for students interested in a career working with animals. This class allows students to earn a veterinary assistant certification which can be applied to real world work experience. Students interested in either animal work or medical work would find benefit in attending this course.
This class is fast-paced and hands-on, and it is suggested that students have a good foundation in biology and animal science before taking this course. Students will be expected to know anatomy basics, life processes, body systems and animal terminology in order to be successful in this class. This class will also involve performing basic medical procedures both on models and live patients in the lab setting. Field trips and guest speakers from industry will also be a core component of the class in order to give students experiences with professionals from animal industries.
