Test-Optional Schools

Students are more than a test score.

Over 1900 colleges are now test-optional for the 2023-24 admissions cycle.

Fairtest.org maintains a list of test-optional colleges and updates it daily as new college announcements are made.

We highly encourage students to compare the list of test-optional colleges to their own college application list to determine if standardized testing will be necessary for their application.

Given that most colleges are taking a holistic approach to evaluating candidates for admission, we are encouraging students to focus on the parts of the application which are in their control - the application, essay and personal statement, and to spend time connecting with colleges to show their demonstrated interest.

Looking back at the 22-23 application cycle, we cannot stress enough that students applying without a test score were NOT disadvantaged in the process. In many instances, students actually fared much better with their admission outcomes than they would have if testing were required.  Counselors will work closely with students in the fall to recommend whether or not to include test scores with their application.
