Mastering the Essay
More than ever, college admission committees will be taking a holistic approach to evaluating applications and will be relying on student essays and personal statements to provide them with insight to who the student is and why they are a good match for their college. We strongly encourage students to spend time crafting their essay and have it reviewed by multiple people (teachers, counselors, parents, etc). If the essay can be completed over the summer, it will alleviate pressure as college deadlines approach in the fall.
Most students can apply using the Common Application, which will allow students to use the same essay for multiple colleges. The Coalition Applicaiton has very similar essay prompts. In additon, some colleges will have supplemental short essay questions specific to their school.
