Math Placement Notes by Major
Finance Department Majors
Finance & RMI majors can take MAT 123, 155, 161, or 162 based on placement. Students who place into MAT 155 or higher, may take MAT 123 as an alternative.
Actuarial Science majors must take MAT 161 or MAT 162, based on placement. MAT 161 and MAT 162 are required for the major. MAT 120 is a pre-req for those who do not place into MAT 161.
DSS Department Majors (Business Intelligence & Analytics, Artificial Intelligence for Business, and Supply Chain Management)
These majors can take MAT 123, MAT 155, MAT 161, or MAT 162. The higher level placements are able to drop down to MAT 123.
Marketing Department Majors (Marketing, Entertainment Marketing, and Sports Marketing)
These majors have a wider range of options: MAT 120, MAT 123, MAT 130-139, MAT 155, MAT 161, and MAT 162.
No business major should register for Statistics (MAT 118, 128, or 148) for CCC Math. They will take DSS 210 Business Statistics later.
Students with MAT 155/161/162 placements should strongly consider MAT 123. Taking MAT 123 could save them from taking an extra Math course if they ultimately have a second major in the Finance Department.
Accounting and Management Department Majors (including Business Administration)
These majors may take MAT 120, MAT 123, MAT 155, MAT 161. The higher level placements are able to drop down to MAT 120 or MAT 123.
Undecided Business, Marketing Majors, Food Marketing Majors, and Pharma & Healthcare Business majors are directed to take the Non-Native Language requirement in the fall semester and then Math in the spring semester. If there is a conflict, they can certainly move into Math for the fall. MAT 123 is the preference for most HSB majors because of the Calculus requirement in certain departments. This is particularly important for Undecided Business majors to understand if they ultimately move into a Finance or DSS major.
