Children will stand behind the starting line.
Children will begin to run when the signal is given.
In the trials the eight fastest times qualify for the finals.
Each child is given one trial.
Runners must stay in their own lanes or be disqualified.
Grades K-4 will run the 50m dash; grades 5-8 will run the 100m dash.
Children will run in one group with points awarded according to their finish times.
Gr. K-2 will run 400m; Gr. 3-4 will run 600m; Gr. 5-6 will run 800m; Gr. 7-8 will run 1000m.
When signal is given, each child, in turn at the starting line, will begin to run as fast as he or she can, zig-zagging around five sets of cones set in a straight line 2 meters apart. He or she should try not to knock over any cones.
The child will be permitted two trials. The better of the two will be scored.
When the signal is given, each child, in turn behind the starting line, runs 10 meters to the first line, picks up an object, returns to the starting point, and sets the object down behind the starting line. Next he runs 20 meters to the second line, picks up the object, and ends by running across the finish line.
Objects must be placed past each of the lines.
The child is permitted two trials. The better of the two will be scored.
Each child, in turn, will stand both feet together behind a line and jump forward.
Measurement will be taken from the starting line to the place where his heel is marked or the body part touching the closest to the starting line.
Each child will be given two trials. The better trial will be scored.
Each child will stand behind a line and throw a softball in the air overhanded, or underhanded, or side-armed. He or she is not to step over the line when he or she throws the ball. He or she should throw the ball in whichever way the ball will travel farthest.
Distance will be measured from the center front of the throwing circle. Distance counts, not accuracy.
The child will receive two trials. The best trial will be scored.
The child will stand in the measured shot put circle.
The child must enter and exit from the back of the circle.
The following shot put weights will be used:
Grades 5 & 6: 6 lbs
Grades 7 & 8: 8 lbs (boys), 6 lb (girls)
The shot must not leave the body with the arm extended laterally. (The baseball throw is illegal & may cause injury.)
Distance will be measured from the center front of the throwing circle.
The child will receive two trials. The better trial will be scored.
The child will turn the rope by themselves.
The child is to jump as many times as possible in succession for one 30 second period. If the child misses a jump during his or her allotted 30 seconds, he may start over in this 30 second period and try to improve his or her first number of jumps, as long as time remains.
When the child’s seconds have elapsed, the judges will count the best of the scores received in his 30 second period. The child will receive two trials with the best trial being scored.
Remember to record the highest number of consecutive jumps--not the total number of jumps.
Each child will stand behind a line and kick (punting style) a standard 8½” playground ball into the air. He or she is not to step over the line when he or she kicks the ball.
Distance will be measured from the center front of the kicking line to the point where the ball first lands on the ground. Distance counts, not accuracy.
The child will receive two trials. The best trial will be scored.
Each child will be allowed no more than a 10 yard approach to throw the TurboJav.
The TurboJav must be pointed in the direction of the throw and held high, slightly above the shoulder level.
Stepping over the throwing line is a scratch and counts as one attempt.
Distance will be measured from the center front of the throwing line to where the point of the TurboJav first hits the ground.
The child will be permitted two trials for this event. Score the better of the two.
Each child will throw five (5) bean bags per trial.
The target will be placed eight feet from the scratch line.
Students must remain behind the scratch line when throwing.
Each child will receive two trials with the highest of the two trials being scored.
The child is allowed a running start. He will approach the jumping pit with as much speed as possible, jumping off of one foot and into the pit.
Distance will be measured from the front of the jumping board to the impression made in the jumping pit closest to the jumping board.
The child will receive two trials, the better trial being scored.
Each child will be allowed 1 miss per height.
Starting heights are as follows:
Grades 5 & 6 girls: 3’0”
Grades 5 & 6 boys: 3’0”
Grades 7 & 8 girls: 3’0”
Grades 7 & 8 boys: 3’6”
Highest jump wins; if tied - least amount of misses wins.
You may approach the bar and not jump two times without being assessed a miss provided you do not break the vertical plane of the bar.
You must jump off one foot. Two-footed jumps are considered a scratch and count as a miss.
You can not jump head first. No diving over the bar!
