The Extended Reality Intelligence (XRI) Lab at San José State University is a research and innovation space dedicated to advancing immersive technologies and intelligent interactive systems. Bringing together augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR) with emerging AI techniques, the lab explores how people learn, communicate, and solve problems in extended realities. Grounded in human–computer interaction, computer graphics, and spatial computing, the XRI Lab develops new ways to visualize complex information, design intuitive interfaces, and create adaptive immersive experiences. Our work spans education, healthcare, scientific visualization, and creative applications — with a focus on accessibility, usability, and real‑world impact.
Dr. Vuthea Chheang is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at San José State University (SJSU). Before joining SJSU, he was a postdoctoral research staff at the Center for Applied Scientific Computing at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Delaware. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Magdeburg in Germany, an M.Eng. in Computer Science from Chungbuk National University in South Korea, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. His areas of expertise include extended reality (XR), human-computer interaction, and visualization. His research interests focus on interaction and visualization techniques, collaborative environments, and the development of XR applications for medical planning and training.
