The report begins with the interviews of a 14 year old pregnant girl and a midwife at a refugee camp in Uganda. Women and children flee to Uganda to escape the violence of interethnic conflicts between the Dincas and the Nuers in Southern Sudan. The interviewees provide disturbing descriptions to NPR anonymously of how they could not wait and have to run away or they will be facing certain death. The Human Rights council considers the level of violence as genocide in Southern Sudan. Stories are shared of child refugees finding their way to this camp alone because parents have the resources for only the child to find their way out of Sudan. A refugee as far back as the 90’s recount how she came alone and now helps children adjust as orphans and to the camps different ethnic backgrounds without using violence.

Student centered - Once students confirm the facts given they can put themselves in the position of the refugees and write a narrative of being in a situation so horrible they would send their child away.
