Alonzo is a third-year microbiology major. His reason for pursuing science is that he wishes to dispel his crippling fear of voodoo. Alonzo, throughout his life, has always had a nagging feeling that something has been watching him and influencing his lab results. Alonzo was born with a deep sense of community through his catholic friends and family. In the end, Alonzo hopes to achieve a legendary scientific title similar to the likes of Mendel or Darwin.

Jesus is a masters student pursuing a masters in M.M.P here in the Grillo-Hill lab. A fun fact about Jesus is he has a crippling fear of being attacked and spends a large amount of his free time training in various martial arts so that he can one day be able to defend himself. Jesus likes clearing his head by taking long walks around the city at night to his favorite areas, like alleyways. Jesus spends his days working hard in the lab as a dedicated researcher so he can attain his dream of becoming an oncologist.

Danino is a third-year biology major with a systems physiology emphasis. He has been part of the lab since his freshman year and has mastered wing disc dissections. He also works as a Peer Connections mentor and is part of the U-RISE program. His favorite hobbies include going to the gym and eating 5x5s from Campus Burger. Danino loves sports, especially the local 49ers team. If you have any questions about an action potential, he is your guy!

Bio: LaRen is a second year graduate student in molecular microbial physiological biology. She is kind, caring, intelligent, and hardworking. LaRen’s favorite activities include baking, singing, and crocheting. LaRen’s current project is in Team Actin. She has delusions of grandeur of Israel being mean to her. Her main role is investigating the effect of pH on actin. LaRen plans on working in biotech after graduation 🙂.

Zack is a year 3 Biomedical engineering student that pursues his passion for regenerative medicine in stem cell research in the lab. In his free time, Zack plays tennis, enjoys hanging out with friends and watching football for his fantasy league. He enjoys playing golf with his father on the course as well as tennis. His greatest fear however is being impoverished later on in life. Zack aspires to create a method of regrowing damaged tissues and organs sometime during his research career. Finally, Zack hopes that through his time in the Grillo-Hill lab he will be able to reach a greater understanding about cancer and its mechanisms, with his newfound friends along the way.

YK is in her final year of being an undergraduate student here at SJSU majoring in Molecular Biology. She hopes to get into a PhD program afterwards, but if that doesn't pan out, she would like to go into biotech. Besides being in school, she loves cafe hopping, going to beaches, and playing badminton. A fun fact about YK is she has friends living in 8 different countries.

Kruthi is a fourth year molecular biology major focusing on pursuing a career in the medical field. Her goal in life is to have an infinite amount of money and no anxiety, but wants to pursue a career with arguably the most debt and anxiety. In her free time, she sketches art panels of flies dissecting humans to heal her guilty conscience of working in a lab that dedicates a large portion of its research in dead headless flies. Kruthi is very passionate about the work done in this lab, largely due to her uncle who currently works in cancer research. She also has a birthday two days apart from the best member of this lab. Alex is a third year Systems Physiology Biology student here at SJSU. He is a student athlete on the track and field team who loves running away from his problems..... He likes being outside, like attending a bunch of sport events and concerts. He is from the 209 and misses the smell of the Central Valley being a farmer and all.

Adriana is a 1st year graduate student in the Molecular, Microbiol, and Physiological Biology Program. She is currently trying to explore California (even though she doesn't have the time to explore California as a graduate student) after moving here recently. She goes to the gym 6 times a week (too many times) to relive her glorious collegiate athlete days. When asked what she wants to do with her degree, she responds “I just got here,”. Adriana is very passionate about the work she does in this lab, as she wants to make an impactful contribution to the field of cancer research. Sam is a third-year biology major with an emphasis in microbiology. She has been part of the lab since her sophomore year and is a master at virgining flies. She is interested in pursuing a career in CLS. Her favorite hobbies are Roblox, reading, and FNAF. Her favorite sports are baseball and hockey. You can find her wearing her Giants and Sharks merchandise. Sam denies that she’s chronically online, yet other lab members can prove that she knows too many memes for that to be true.

Israel aka Gooby Wooby is a music loving, gaming nerd, in his 4th year of forensic science. You’ll find him in lab blasting deftones for everyone to hear, or occasionally, the SpongeBob soundtrack. He’ll usually be talking about video games he’s playing, like Resident Evil and Dark Souls. He loves cats, and has a reaction image for absolutely every and any situation you can imagine. Israel is a part if team Western Blot, where he investigates the effect of over expression of Myc and Beta-catenin on Autophagy. If you see him running an experiment, he is absolutely giving 101% of his effort, and shows up everyday even when things are rough. He hopes to get into a career working in a forensic crime lab. 

Tiana is a second year graduate student in the Molecular and Microbial Biology graduate program. She is currently TA-ing 4 BIOL 30 lab sections and is a mother to 5 undergraduate students in the lab. She has many fun and funky tattoos, and she loves attending concerts. She is also Hawaiian, an island girl. A fun fact about her is that she is a dog mom to frenchies. 

Kiana is a 4th Systems Physiology major. Kiana has been part of the lab for the last 2 years. She is part of Team Ommmatidia where they investigate the different Myc domain phenotypes, through pupal eye dissections. In the future Kiana hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. Fun fact, she is actually a certified phlebotomist. In her free time, Kiana is an avid gym-goer. She recently started her gym journey this year and is already bench pressing, shoulder pressing, and squatting as much as the notably strongest member of the lab, Danino. Bio: Current President of BSA, 3rd year junior, and majoring in biology. Joel’s favorite

activities include solving complex math problems, listening to music, hiking, gaslighting

and playing video games. His favorite series of all time is Dragon Ball Z. Joel Vinod is a

hardworking, funny, and smart individual that contributes a lot to the lab and his school

work. Mr. Vinod is a part of team western blot in the lab. Joel’s plan after graduation is to

get a masters in EE to further his education.

Alan is a Molecular/Microbial/Physiological Biology graduate student who aspires to do 8 years long MD-PHD.. He likes to visit Hawaii very often and hosting friends for get-togethers/dinners. He has a corgi that loves to eat :) He loves listening to R&B music while growing cells!
