EDCO students who are pursuing the Clinical Counseling pathway are required to complete coursework in Addictions Counseling (i.e., EDCO 272) and Psychopharmacology (i.e., EDCO 289 offered in the summer).
Students who are unable to complete these courses at SJSU during summer school are permitted to take these two graduate-level courses through a BBS-approved program. Several students have had positive experiences taking the course(s) (Addictions Counseling and/or Psychopharmacology) through Alliant International University. Keep in mind that if you do not take these two courses at SJSU, you will need to consult with your advisor prior to graduation to ensure that you have met all of the requirements for both the MA degree and the Clinical Counseling pathway (e.g., you will still need to take a section of EDCO 289 in fall/spring).
Once you have successfully completed the course(s), you will want to have the class validated so that it is attached to your SJSU record before you graduate. The steps are as follows:
Order an official transcript from Alliant to be sent to SJSU. Please note that this should be an official transcript, not a report of completion from Canvas or an unofficial record. You will also want to order a copy of your transcript for your own records. Your copy can be an official version. You will want to ensure that everything is listed correctly and you will need this transcript to complete your transfer request.
Once you have your copy of the transcript and have sent an official copy to SJSU, follow the instructions below for "How to Submit a Request for Validation of Transfer Credit."
