Self-Directed

Self-directed teaching means that teachers and teacher librarians provide opportunities for learners to have the autonomy to pursue their own interests. Below are virtual resources I created that can be offered to students to pursue their literary, cultural and current event interest. Overall the purpose is to promote the love of reading and learning through self-directed activities.

Book Promotion

This Book Promotion Website features a Bitmoji Classroom book display promoting #OwnVoices early chapter books. #OwnVoices books are books with diverse characters written by authors who share the same cultural and/or racial identity as their characters. This is particularly important in regards to diversity and inclusion because #OwnVoices books provide students with stories that reflect and celebrate their lived experiences. The purpose of this book promotion is to provides teachers with culturally revelavent books to offter their students.

Cultural Text Set

The purpose of this text set is to provide text resources for teachers to use when teaching the book George by Alex Gino. The audience of this text set is 5th grade. The Lexile is 790L and Guided Reading Level Z. The anchor text can be scaffolded and made accessible for students reading at at a lower reading.

The Fork and Knife Game

This video encourages younger students to explore and create knowledge together of concepts the go together or pairs. Students are then encouraged to use their kinesthetic abilities to further explore create knowledge.
