This website features an inquiry lesson on Racism and Allyship. In this collaborative virtual unit, 5th grade students will explore their own and others’ experiences with race and racism. In researching the impact of racism, the students will also research problem solving techniques and solutions to take a stand as Allies who speak out against oppression and marginalization in their school and larger communities. The unit is designed to be cotaught by the classroom Teacher and Teacher Librarian.
The purpose of this curricular text set is to provide teacher with other text resources when teaching the book All American Boys by Jason Reynolds & Brendan Kiely. By exposing students to other virtual text resources teacher's will be able to expand their understanding of the essential question of the anchor text: What is the current racial justice movement and how does it connect to America’s past?
