Empathize

Empathize is to gain an empathic understanding of the problem you are trying to solve. This involves consulting experts to find out more about area of concern through observing, engaging and empathizing with people to understand their experience & motivations, as well as immersing yourself in the physical environment so you can gain a deeper personal understanding of the issues involved.

In this instance, students will develop an understanding of the problem they have selected and wish to solve. They will consult with experts and resources to find a solution and gain a better understanding of how the problem came about and how it can potentially be solved. Students should be able to relate to the problem and personalize it, which is the embodiment of empathizing. (Ex. problems relating to students with a disability, problems relating to student learning, etc.)

Learning Activity:

After getting together in their groups and having settled on a problem, students will discuss and share any personalized experiences, including how this problem affects them personally.

In this Unit, Students will utilize a variety of digital tools to help them research their problems, communicate with their teammates and develop a solution. Such tools include:

• Google Docs/Google Drives

• Laptops

• Tablets

• Iphones

• Zoom (App)

• The Internet

• Verified online resources
