#1 Score & Slip
#2 Coiling
Roll out an even rope of clay using your palms.
When coiling, ensure you score and slip before pushing the clay at the side downwards.
Always maintain 0.5cm even wall thickness.
#3 Pinching
Remember to cup your non-dominant hand around the ball of clay while you are pinching, and move in a clockwise rotation as you pinch to ensure an even, 0.5cm thickness.
#4 Rolling
You can use your palms or a rolling pin to ensure that the thickness of the clay slab remains even.
When using your palms, always start from the inside and work towards the outer areas of the rope of clay.
When using a rolling pin, you can also use wooden supports (or a frame) to ensure that the thickness is even.
Shaping tools
These usually come with a wooden or metal handle, and have different-shaped heads. You can use them to SUBTRACT, SHAPE, CUT/SCORE the clay.
Wire tool
The wire tool is used to cut clay from large blocks. It is also used to remove clay vessels that are placed on a wheel for long periods of time.
Sponge & Slip
A sponge is used to either wet or dry the clay. It can also be used to smoothen uneven surfaces.
Slip is usually placed in a small container or tub and used as a glue to join pieces together.
