IDEA Definition for AT Services and Devices
AT Services: According to the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), Assistive Technology (AT) services are defined as:
"Any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device"(U.S. Department of Education, 2004).

AT Devices: According to the IDEA, an AT device is defined as:
"Any item, piece of equipment, or system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities"(U.S. Department of Education, 2004).

Assistive Technology Categories and Examples
Examples of Mid Tech
Text to Speech: Converts written text into spoken words can help support students with speech/vocal disabilities.
Voice Amplification System: Teachers can use a voice amplification system for students that are hard of hearing where the teachers microphone can connect to a students hearing aide/device this can help ensure students with hearing disabilities can hear better.
Examples of High Tech
Eye Tracking Devices: allows indviduals with severe physical disabilities be able to communicate by selecting words with their eyes. This allows them to communicate effeictievely and efficiently for their needs and questions.
Electronic WheelChair: allows indviduals with severe physical disabilities to be able to move around independently using a motorized seat controlled by a joystick.
