Project Idea 1: Civil War Newspaper
Students act as journalists in 1861.
Write 3–4 newspaper articles covering:
The secession of states
Lincoln’s call for volunteers
The First Battle of Bull Run
Include period-style headlines, illustrations, and editorials from both Union and Confederate perspectives.
Project Idea 2: Soldier’s Diary Project
Students write 3–5 diary entries from the perspective of a young Union or Confederate soldier.
Entries should describe experiences such as training, marching, or witnessing Bull Run.
Students can present diaries in booklets or as a dramatic reading.
