A: As of Dec 11, 2020 we now have an expiry extension to March 31, 2021.
Those that require it for federally regulated positions, would need to check with their Federal regulating bodies as to what extensions are available if needed in their workplace. Examples include: Power Generators, Rail, Air, etc.
A: Should the need arise to perform CPR during the current COVID-19 pandemic on any individual, the guidelines below should be applied. Please keep in mind that each situation will be unique:
The first aider should always protect themselves. This means using the proper personal protective equipment such as gloves and a CPR mask with a one-way valve.
If the first aider does not feel comfortable breathing into the patient, while using a mask, they are encouraged to perform hands-only CPR.
If you are a healthcare provider, follow your local jurisdiction protocols.
It is worth mentioning that COVID-19, while new, is not the only pathogen that a first aider may come across in a first aid situation. Caution should always be exercised when assisting a casualty due to any number of possible pathogens.
A: All requests for SJA assistance must be reviewed and approved by the PHATF. Requests should be forwarded to the task force at coronavirus@sjaoc.ca . If the operation is intended to commence in less than 24 hours please also contact the Provincial Emergency Pager at 1-888-249-8531.
To assist the task force in reviewing and processing requests it is important to obtain as much information as possible. This form should be completed by the local SJA branch making the request to the task force. This is an internal form for SJA use and should not be sent to the external agency. Please download it and submit via email to the task force (coronavirus@sjaoc.ca).
A: Check to see if the products meet Canadian government requirements (see website: https://buyandsell.gc.ca/specifications-for-COVID-19-products). K95s are an acceptable alternative to the N95, check to see if masks have the required markings. Surgical/Procedure masks should be ASTM Level 2.
A: COVID-19 is a respiratory virus that spreads via Droplet transmission. Surgical face masks, eye protection, and gloves are the key pieces with a disposable gown where available. Hospital and clinic-based staff who provide routine care or screening activities are wearing surgical face masks. N95 masks are only required for specific health care practitioners providing care to infected individuals and performing aerosol-generating medical procedures as previously outlined. Please keep in mind that each deployment is unique and PPE may be slightly different from above.
A: As a means of collecting member availability to help with these and future deployment opportunities, please go to: https://forms.gle/QTgTQc34UW9Fwsbf6 and fill out the Volunteer Registration Form if interested. Remember, if you are ill or your health is otherwise compromised, please do not put yourself or others at risk.
