In August 2015, Zetel started to work with Christmas Island Internet Administration Limited (CiiA), in building a 4G LTE network to replace their existing fixed wireless internet service, but also making the network a fully capable cutting-edge mobile operation.
The network has since then gradually grown to cover the majority of the island population, residents and visitors, but also extended the initial 4G LTE Data only service to support VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE). This, in combination with the Low-Orbit (low latency) satellite backhaul, provides an unpararelled fixed and mobile network service to the external territory, setting a template for many other regional and remote ISP/MSPs around the world to follow.
The service now supports,
Fixed Wireless using Indoor/Outdoor CPEs (4G LTE router), e.g. for corporate users
Mobile Broadband using 4G Pocket WiFi, e.g. for any residents and visitors, professional and casual
Dual-SIM smartphones to enable both CiiA 4G data and Telstra 2G voice on the same device
CiiA VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) on certified Android and Apple smartphones
VoLTE gateway to allow PSTN/PLMN phone calls to mainland Australia and the world
