My research interests lie primarily in the areas of spatial, Bayesian, and nonparametric statistics. I enjoy using and developing statistical methods motivated by applied problems in the areas of environmental monitoring, agriculture, and sports, just to name a few. I am also interested in scientific communication, the interface between science and policy, and statistics education. In the past, I have collaborated with scientists and consulted clients on a variety of projects, including:
data analyses and development of methods aimed to maximize the ratings percentage index (RPI) of the CSU men's basketball team;
development of an algorithm used to predict calving in dairy cattle;
quantification of the relationship of oxidation/reduction potential and post freeze qualities in bull semen;
assessment of hurricane forecasts from dynamical forecasting models with scientists from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, CO;
development of an R software package that implements test of spatial isotropy;
algorithm development for quantification of the size and location of methane sources (e.g., natural gas leaks) located in major U.S. cities using data from mobile methane surveys;
development of a Bayesian, hierarchical, integrated population model for estimating the number of natural gas leaks and their emission rates in local distribution systems using capture-recapture methods;
a meta-analysis of temperature sensitivity traits in soil microbes;
creation of a new statistical method for testing the assumption of isotropy in spatial data;
a study of bruising incidence and meat trim loss in fed cattle;
estimation of national emissions and activity factors for natural gas distribution systems; and
a model for assessing optimal defensive alignment for MLB teams.

My R package spTest is available on GitHub. The functions in spTest implement nonparametric tests of isotropy for spatial data.
