Yonkers Obituaries

This project is an effort to index the obituaries listed in the Herald-Statesman newspaper of Yonkers, New York. As of now, there is no published index of obituaries for the Herald-Statesman.

The Yonkers Statesman began publishing in the 1860s, followed by the publication of the Yonkers Herald in the 1890s. These two papers merged in the 1930s to become the Yonkers Herald-Statesman and then the Herald-Statesman. On January 1, 1999, the Herald-Statesman, along with other venerable Southern Westchester newspapers such as the Daily Argus, Standard-Star and Daily Times, folded into one regional newspaper called The Journal News.

Currently, indexing of the newspaper for obituaries has been completed for much of 1950-1953, 1962-1964, 1982 and 1984, as well as scattered other years. Work continues on the index.
