Textbook: Mathematical Applications for the Management, Life and Social Sciences, 10th Edition 1133106234, by Harshbarger & Reynolds. Chapter 9-14.
* Regardless of which textbook option you choose, you MUST purchase Enhanced WebAssign (EWA), which will be used for homework and/or quizzes in your class, and it additionally gives you many resources alongside the book. Please refer to the course coordinator's email for further detail.
Course Description: Not for students who have completed more than one semester of calculus. Differentiation, maximization and minimization of functions, marginal analysis and the optimization of constrained functions, integration and applications.
Prerequisite(PERMISSION CODE): Prerequisites: "C" or better in (MATH 1050 OR MATH 1080 OR MATH 1090 OR MATH 1210) OR Accuplacer CLM score of 80 or better OR ACT Math score of 28 or better OR SAT Math score of 630 or better. If you do not meet the prerequisite and need a PERMISSION CODE to register, please submit the application here.
Grading Policy: Course grades will be calculated as follows:
- Homework 10%
- Quizzes 20%
- Midterm 1 20%
- Midterm 2 20%
- Final 30%
I reserve the right to change the grading scheme as I see fit. Any other grading scheme I use will only be beneficial to your grade as compared to the above standard.
No calculators of any kind will be allowed on the homework, the midterms or final exam.
Homework: Homework problems are assigned weekly via WebAssign. More detail will be updated.
Quizzes: There will be weekly quizzes starting week 2 (usually on each Wednesday).
Exam Policy:
- In principle, there is NO make-up exam for midterms and the final.
- If you must miss an exam due to illness, family tragedy, a University sponsored trip, jury duty, military service etc. contact the instructor as soon as possible. If you must miss an exam and are granted an excused absence I will prorate your grade on the basis of your scores from the other two exams.
- The Final exam will be cumulative.
Midterms: There will be 2 midterms in class (50 mins).
- Midterm 1 on Wednesday, October 1st
- Midterm 2 on Wednesday, November 19th
Final Exam: Monday, December 15th, 10:30AM -12:30PM; NO make-up exam for Final.
Tutoring Lab: If you need help with homework and class material, please go to T. Benny Rushing Mathematics Student Center. There will be plenty of TAs who can help you during the center hour.
Lab hours: Tutoring lab open on M-Th 8AM - 8PM; F 8AM - 6PM.
ADA Statement: The Americans with Disability Act requires that reasonable accommodations be provided for students with physical, cognitive, systemic learning and psychiatric disabilities. The student needs to have such a disability approved by the Disability Service O.ffice (162 UNION, 581-5020) in order to have the accommodations provided. The instructor need to be informed about such a disability and approved accommodations at the beginning of the semester.
