When the libraries come up on Evergreen, patrons are going to be introduced to a new online catalog that will offer many of the same - and some different - features they already know. Obviously, it all comes with some changes:
Highlights:
Patrons will only have to use one catalog for requests from all C/W MARS libraries. No more Union Catalog.
Patrons will have the option to create a username to sign into the catalog. The default login will still be their library card barcode.
Public lists. Patrons will be able to create lists of titles that can not only be kept for their own reference, but can be published through RSS feeds and made available to the public. Possible uses include book club suggestions, genre-specific and themed lists, and title recommendations.
As with most systems, there are things that are just unable to be migrated. For patrons, this will include:
Current PIN. Patrons will be able to login to their online catalog account using the last four digits of their library barcode as a password. They will be required to create a new password when they login for the first time.
Reading History and Current Wish Lists. In the case of Reading History and Wish Lists, patrons have the ability to export their lists or print from a computer. There is a button to choose "Export List" at the top of their list. Choices are limited: lists can be exported as Brief Display (Author, Title, Published fields), Full Display (All the information that shows in the full record display in the catalog, including library holdings) or MARC record. These can be sent to an email address as a text file or displayed on the computer for printing.
Ecommerce will not be available in the new system when we go live. We are working on its integration which is partially dependent on completion of development from the King County Library System. We will be making further announcements as functionality is added.
Attached at the bottom are announcement sheets, brochures and bookmarks that libraries can make available to their patrons immediately from C/W MARS and member libraries. Feel free to submit your own materials to share.
