Raised Eskla

Home & Food

  • Your largest meal is in the evening.
  • You don't consider dogs, snakes, or horses to be food. Fish, swine and poultry are common, as is the local forms of shellfish. Only the well off get cattle.
  • Killing your own food is common. Most have killed poulty, or at least cleaned a dead hog.
  • You eat ...
  • Ales and mead are common beverages, and you can find fresh water without too much problems outside town.
  • Your home has a wooden floor, and the outhouse is separate building.

Work & Travel

  • You work almost every day, except for Templeday. If you're well off, you may spend a second day tended to the family garden.
  • Unless you're a merchant, your travels are rarely beyond a day's ride. You've been to a large regional town or city once or twice.

Weather

  • You keep warm by a heath in your home.
  • Winters are wet and cool. Snow is pretty rare unless you live in the hills.
  • Storms are pretty tame, unless you live on the coast. It may rain a lot, but the ridges and hills slow down the most intense weather. On the Balacont plains tornados can be a threat.

Entertainment

  • Typical jokes target nogs, the Heteri and Mindat.
  • Informal entertainment is storytelling and music.
  • Music in drinking in pubs is the common pastime. You may occasional attend a dance or play in town.

Weapons and Warfare

  • If you're of better class than a peasant or serf, *someone* in your family probably owns a rifle.
  • Unless you've got militia service in your past, you don't carry a sword, though some means of defense is about the house.
  • Seeing people die is pretty rare, except for the sick and elderly. You have probably never killed someone.
